Otopharynx selenurus

Otopharynx selenurus is living in sandy environments in reasonable shallow water. You can find them all around the lake.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 18 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 22 cm, females grow to about 18 cm.

Otopharynx selenurus is a cichlid which you can best keep with multiple females, in a large tank with a lot of swimming space and other cichlids from sandy environments.

In the lake they are swimming behind big fish which swirl up the sand in which they are searching for food. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
